If you have a newer Samsung smartphone, you have probably already made the acquaintance of the Bixby voice assistant. This is activated by pressing the Bixby button, which is located under the volume buttons - and unfortunately this is usually unintentional. Because you quickly accidentally press this button even though you actually wanted to change the volume. You cannot completely deactivate or even uninstall the voice assistant, but you can make some settings that restrict Bixby.

How to turn off Bixby

As mentioned earlier, you cannot completely disable Bixby or delete it from your smartphone. However, you can make some settings - such as deactivating voice activation or assigning the Bixby button - that limit the functions of the Samsung assistant. 1st step:

Press and hold the Bixby button on the side of your smartphone to start the wizard. Then tap the " Three Lines " menu on the left.

2nd step:

Now tap on the gear symbol to open the settings.

3rd step:

Now deactivate the items " Voice activation ", " Use when the phone is locked " and " Bixby dictation function " in order to restrict the functions of Bixby. Then tap on " Bixby button ".

4th step:

Since the update to Android 9 Pie, you can unfortunately no longer choose the option that nothing opens when you press the Bixby button. Instead, you can now only choose to have Bixby open when you press it twice . If you want, you can then enable the " Use once press " option and choose an app to open instead.

5th step:

Now go back to your home screen and hold down until you see the home screen settings . Then swipe right and turn off the switch for " Bixby Home ". This is how Bixby will no longer appear on your home screen.
