CBRC in Vmware

The first thing we must do is enable the CBRC in each Host. To do this, from vCenter , we select the first Host and click on " Configuration" . At the Software level we click on Advanced Settings .

  • In the option "CBRC.DCacheMemReserved" we will configure the size of RAM to be reserved in the Host. The default value is 1024 and the maximum size is 2048, that is, it will reserve 2 GB of RAM.
  • And to enable this functionality at the Host level we will only have to click on the option "CBRC.Enable". This operation will be done in each Host that will serve Virtual Desktops with View 5.1.
  • Once the CBRC has been configured at the Host level, we will have to do the same but in View Administrator . To do this, we initiate a session in our View Administrator and click on the " Servers" option, under View Configuration .
  • We select our vCenter server and click on the "Edit" button. Once inside the vCenter server options we select the "Host Caching" tab . In this window we will enable Host Cache by clicking on the "Enable host caching for View check" . It is also possible from this advantage to adjust the reserved memory.

At this moment we already have the CBRC enabled in the Host and the Host Cache in View . This way when we create the next pool we can configure it to use Host Cache as we will see below.

We have to bear in mind that this option is available only from version 5.1 of View.
  • In the wizard of creating a Pool we will have the option Use host caching available . All you have to do is click on Use host caching . In this same window we can define how many days the cache is automatically regenerated. By default the option is in 7 days.
  • We can also define the Black times that are the days and times when we do not want the cache to be regenerated. These days and hours should coincide with working time slots.
  • Take into account that to optimize this functionality it is best to use it with the poles that consume the most disk, such as the Replica discs in the Linked Clone .
  • The CBRC is an option that is very easy to configure and this will greatly improve performance with respect to our virtualization habitat.
