With home sharing, iTunes users can share their media library over the home network so that they can enjoy films, music and videos on their smartphones. The private share is set up with just a few clicks and is then ready for use immediately. We show you how it works!

How to Use iTunes Home Sharing

First, you have to activate private sharing via iTunes in order to then stream content to your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV.

Note: These step-by-step instructions show how to set up private sharing using iTunes for the PC. The procedure on a Mac is different from this. Instructions for setting up Home Sharing on a Mac can be found on the official Apple website .

1st step:

Open iTunes on the PC and under the menu item " File " click on " Home Sharing " and then on " Enable Home Sharing ".

2nd step:

Now you have to log in with your Apple ID and then confirm with " Activate private sharing ". You can now stream your media library on your PC to your iOS devices. To do this, however, both devices must be switched on and active. They also have to be on the same network.

3rd step:

For example, open the TV app to stream your purchased or rented films and videos to your iOS device. To do this, tap on the " Media library " tab . The synchronized libraries and available content will then be displayed.

4th step:

Use the Music app on your iOS device to stream music content via Home Sharing. To do this, simply open the music app and tap on " Home Sharing " under " Media Library ". If the category is not displayed, tap on " Edit " in the top right corner and activate the item " Private Sharing " in the following menu .

1. Open iTunes on your computer.
2. On the navigation bar, click " File "> " Home Sharing "> " Home Sharing Enable ".
3. Enter your Apple ID and password and click OK . Sharing is now activated and your library is synced with your iOS devices that are linked to the same Apple ID. You can use both the Music app and the TV app to play shared content.
