The Always On Display is a function on Samsung smartphones that is available from Android Oreo and is normally preinstalled. With this tool, the display is not black as usual in standby mode, but becomes a status display for the most important information. This information can include, for example, the current time and push notifications. We'll show you how you too can activate this function on your Samsung device.

Activate Always On Display

Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the quick start guide .

1st step:

Open the settings on your Samsung smartphone . Select the " Lock screen " item there .

2nd step:

Here you will now find a button called " Always On Display ". You can turn this function on by tapping the slider on the right. If the controller is on the right and is colored blue, the function is active. If you now scroll down, you can set what information you want to be shown on the display - for example, which clock style should be used and what else is on the display is shown. You can adjust the latter via the " FaceWidgets " item .

3rd step:

If you tap the " Always On Display " button just described (not the controller), you can still make a few settings. Here you can decide when the Always On Display should be active: by pressing the home button or by timer.

4th step:

You can also activate or deactivate the Always On Display via the quick settings. To do this, simply tap the appropriate button.

  1. Open the settings of your Samsung smartphone and tap on " Lock screen ".
  2. Now select " Always On Display ". Tapping will move the slider to the right to the ON position. It should then be colored blue .
  3. By tapping the button takes you to a menu where you can set when the Always On display is to be activated (for example, when you press the Home button). You can also adjust some details in the " Lock Screen " menu.
