Nothing is more convenient than using AirPlay on Roku , a function that can be very useful to enjoy different types of content. Almost everything we can stream from one Apple device to another is also available for Roku TV. So we are not going to have any kind of limitation in this sense..
Enable AirPlay on Roku
The first thing we will have to do is enable AirPlay on our Roku device. For this we will have to go to the Roku home screen and select Settings. After this we are going to head to Apple AirPlay and HomeKit.
Once the settings are displayed, we will have to choose AirPlay in the top right for it to show as activated..
We must take into account the following elements to be able to use AirPlay on our Roku:
- Both devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- It is important to run Roku OS 9.4 or higher to be able to use AirPlay 2.
- The Roku device must be compatible with AirPlay 2. From the Roku support page it is possible to see the models and their details.
- We must have an Apple device compatible with AirPlay 2. We can also consult it on the Apple support website .
AirPlay from iPhone or iPad to Roku
We can use AirPlay from an application or the Control Center, depending on what we want to share. Most of the time, we will see the AirPlay option available from Share or in the app's toolbar.
For example, here we can see AirPlay in a Photos album. We will select the photo and click on the Share button that appears at the bottom left. After this we are going to choose AirPlay and select the Roku device that should appear in the list..
This way, we will see our image appear on the big screen. From here, we can scroll through the album to see other photos on Roku. Once we finish, we will simply have to press the AirPlay icon in the upper right corner to stop sharing.
In case we want to share music from the Control Center, we will have to click on the AirPlay icon in the Music widget and choose Roku from the list. This way, we will listen to the song on Roku TV and we can control the playlist from the iPhone or iPad.
If we want to stop streaming to Roku, we reopen the Control Center and click on the AirPlay icon.
From Mac
Let's see how to use AirPlay from a Mac to Roku with an example, here we have a TV app. So we're going to select the AirPlay icon at the bottom of the window and choose the Roku device.
We would have to watch the TV show playing on Roku, from the Mac we can control everything (pause, play, etc.) If we want to stop streaming, we simply select the AirPlay icon again and choose Mac.
We can see another example with the Mac Control Center to be able to send music to Roku. We open the Control Center located on the right side of the menu bar and choose the AirPlay icon in Sound. We select the Roku device and we should listen to the music without problems.
Again, when we finish, we repeat the previous steps, but in this case we choose Mac to listen to the music through the computer speakers.
