In this tutorial we will explain the step by step for the ADD of a Role under the platform of Windows 2008 Server R2, Applies for Windows Server 2008 version. Next to a brief introduction to the service.
What are Roles in a server?
A server role is a set of software programs that allow a computer to perform a specific function for several users or other computers in a network.
As long as its installation and configuration have been correct.
A server can be dedicated to playing a single role that is used intensively in the company or can play several roles if each of them is used less intensively.
Provides organization of access to resources managed by other computers, such as websites, printers or files stored on different computers.
They can include their own databases, which can record information related to the role about the users and computers of a network within a company.
For example, the Active Directory Service, which includes its own database to store names and their hierarchical relationships throughout the company.
The Roles instantly installed and with their correct configuration, start their operation automatically.
How to Install or manage Roles of a Server?
In this case we will take as an example the installation of a server with Active Directory services.
Starting from a server already installed with the Windows 2008 Server R2 version.
With its static IP already configured.
Tool to be used: DCPROMO.
We will go to the "START", "RUN" button.
Write "DCPROMO" and click on the "OK" button
The configuration wizard for the Active Directory domain installation starts running.
We will give you "NEXT", "NEXT".
In this case we will be selecting the second option, "CREATE A NEW DOMAIN IN A NEW FOREST", since our intention is to add our first Domain Controller.
Then we will give you "NEXT".
In this screen you will request the name of Root of the Forest.
For example "RQUAGLIANO.COM".
Then we will give you "NEXT".
We select "Windows Server 2008", as the functional level of the forest, and thus have no problems with previous versions.
Then we will give you "NEXT".
In this screen we will leave the tabs by default active.
This same server will act as a DNS server and since it is our first Active Directory, it must have the privileges of "GLOBAL CATALOG" and it can not be a Read Only Domain Controller.
Then we will give you "NEXT".
By previously having our static IP configured correctly in our server, we will jump to the location of the log files and SYSVOL, We will leave the default route.
Then we will give you "NEXT".
In this step, you will request an administrator password.
This will serve us in case of beginning in service restoration mode.
Then we will give you "NEXT".
This window is an informative mode, where you will detail the options previously chosen.
Then we will give you "NEXT".
And we will start our Domain Controller configuration.
At the end of the installation wizard of the configured services, Active Directory, then we will give you "FINISH".
It will ask us to restart the computer.
After the restart, we will have our first Domain Controller configured.
