FARO LS refers to the FARO LS 880 laser scanner, which is a 3D laser scanning device produced by FARO Technologies, Inc. The FARO LS 880 is used for capturing precise measurements and creating detailed 3D models of objects or environments.

If you have FARO LS installed on your computer, it is likely because you have used it for scanning purposes or have software related to the scanner installed. Whether or not you can uninstall it depends on your specific circumstances and needs.

If you no longer use the FARO LS scanner or the associated software, and you are certain that you do not need it in the future, you can uninstall it like any other software installed on your computer. Here's a general guide on how to uninstall software:

  1. On Windows: Go to the "Control Panel" from the Start menu, then navigate to "Programs" or "Programs and Features." Find the FARO LS software in the list of installed programs, right-click on it, and select "Uninstall" or "Remove."

  2. On macOS: Open the "Applications" folder from the Finder. Find the FARO LS software, click and hold its icon, then drag it to the Trash. You may need to enter your administrator password to complete the uninstallation process.

It's worth noting that if you are uncertain about whether you should uninstall the software or if it is required for other applications on your computer, it is advisable to consult the documentation or support resources provided by FARO Technologies or seek assistance from their support team.

What is FARO LS?
Can I uninstall Faro LS from my Windows operating system?
How to uninstall FARO LS?

There are many occasions when I visit the control panel to uninstall a Windows application and I find applications that I have never installed. On my last visit to this list of installed programs, I came across the FARO LS application of Faro Scanner Production , but since I didn't remember installing it, I didn't know what it was used for and if I could uninstall it.

image

For this reason I will try to give basic information about what is FARO LS and if we can uninstall it without fear of finding errors in other programs. Some may even think that it is a virus, spyware or malicious file.

What is FARO LS?

It is an application that allows you to scan objects in three dimensions , but for use we will need a scanner from the company Faro. The funny thing is that this application is automatically installed by many drawing programs , without the user noticing.

This program allows you to use a laser scanner to obtain a cloud of points in three dimensions . In addition, it allows to obtain additional information of each point, for example the color.

Can I uninstall Faro LS from my Windows operating system?

image The answer is very simple, but you have a laser scanner or if you are not going to work with files associated with this program, you can delete it without any problem .

In my case, the culprit of its installation was the AutoCAD , more specifically the 2014 version. Recently I switched to AutoCAD 2018 and FARO LS is no longer installed. Perhaps the Autodesk company included it in some versions of AutoCAD by some kind of agreement with the FARO company.

The reality is that it is a mostly useless program for most of us who use AutoCAD and that will consume us resources, so it is best to uninstall it .

How to uninstall FARO LS?

The recommended method to uninstall FARO LS is to do it from the control panel itself. In Windows 7 we have to access Panel de control → Desinstalar un programa , then select FARO LS from the list and press the button «Uninstall or change» to remove it permanently.

The program is usually installed in the C:\Program Files\FARO\FARO LS\ folder, that is, in the "Program Files" folder and usually occupies about 8MB.

I hope this little guide has helped you and clarified the doubts. Do not hesitate to use the comments to raise any questions or add any additional information.

FARO brings advanced laser scanner LS software

FARO Technologies, Inc., manufacturer of the world's best-selling portable measuring arms and laser tracker, today announced version 4.0 of its 3D laser scanning software family: FARO Scene, FARO Scout, FARO Scout LT and FARO Record.

The user-friendly high-performance software packages are used for the viewing, administration, calibration, filtering and management of large 3D point clouds collected with the FARO Laser Scanner LS.

"The FARO LS is the most advanced device of its kind and is now even more valuable for a wide variety of industries and applications," said Jay Freeland, president and one of FARO's CEOs.

Version 4.0 offers the following significant improvements: - Intrinsic use of the axis inclination sensor for faster registration - Forced plane adjustment for highly precise plane positioning - Easier export of sections - Export of objects in DXF format - Intelligent contrast adjustment to improve point cloud visualization - Automatic filtering

This new version also has a multilingual interface and gives the user the choice between English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, Italian and Portuguese.

In addition, the FARO Laser Scanner LS has improved firmware that is available to existing LS customers free of charge.

The FARO Laser Scanner LS is a portable, computerized measuring device that creates a high-resolution, digital 3D "photography" by scanning its 360-degree environment up to 76 m away. The scanner collects 120,000 points per second with an accuracy of up to 3 mm, whereby the system recreates and records all measurements of the 3D objects on a laptop.

The data recorded in this way can then be used to create a digital model or an evaluation or analysis in comparison to an existing model wherever highly detailed 3D measurements are required; For example in plant planning, building data modeling - but also in special applications that range from land surveying to the reconstruction of accident sites or crimes to the digital preservation of historical sites.

Company profile FARO

FARO Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: FARO) designs, develops and markets software and portable, computerized measuring devices with around 12,500 installations and 5,500 customers and international subsidiaries worldwide. The company's products allow manufacturers to perform 3D inspections of parts and assemblies during production. This helps eliminate manufacturing defects and increases productivity and profitability across a wide range of industries in FARO's global customer base. The most important products include FARO Laser ScanArm; FARO Laser Scanner LS; FARO Gage and Gage-PLUS; Platinum, Digital Template, Titanium, Advantage FaroArms; the world's best-selling laser tracker - the FARO Laser Tracker X and Xi; and the CAM2 series of modern CAD-based measurement and reporting software.

Ideal for shooting traffic accidents and crime scenes. The Focus3D is the ideal aid for fast and detailed 3D recording of crime and accident locations. With the help of the scanner, “scenarios” can be recorded much more easily and with significantly less time expenditure than with conventional methods. The scanner captures everything you see without much additional effort. All data and important details for the subsequent reconstruction and analysis of the crime or the course of the accident are recorded and can be called up permanently.

Example:

An accident that occurs every day in city centers and on motorways is completely scanned with 2-3 scans within 30 minutes. The documentation is therefore done on site. The rest is conveniently done in the office. Of course, you also have the option of viewing the scan data on the display at the scene of the accident.
