You are giving up your iPhone for an Android smartphone and you want to keep your SMS conversations? No problem, we'll explain how to do it.
After having used an iPhone for a long time, you want to see what the competition is doing and you decide to migrate to the Android operating system. An important change that can upset your habits, but also your personal files. So, if you prefer to keep your SMS conversations as they are, it is possible to do so. Unfortunately, the migration from iOS to Android is more complex than the reverse. Here, it will not be a simple synchronization as can be done between two smartphones of the same operating system.
Back up SMS on iTunes
Migrating your SMS requires many steps. First, you will have to save your SMS on iTunes. To do this, connect your iPhone to a computer and open the Apple software. Then click on the iPhone symbol and then on "Save now".
Your entire smartphone will then be saved on iTunes and more specifically, on your computer.
Locate the backup
From your PC or Mac, do a search to find the backup of your phone. This should be in your documents. To find it, you can try typing in the file explorer "Apple" or "Backup", for example. Otherwise, you can always follow the following route:
– Sur Windows : C:\Utilisateurs\(nom d’utilisateur)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
– Sur OS X : ~/Bibliothèque/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
In this folder are several files. You will have to open the document that does not display a date. To make it easier, organize your file by modification date and click on the last document saved. Then open this famous document, then the “3d” sub-directory. Finally, you will need to locate the file with the name: 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28. This file corresponds to the backup of your SMS conversations.
Make your file compatible with Android
Once you have located the file containing your SMS, you will need to copy it to your new Android smartphone. Just connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable, open its documents and copy the file into it.
Then, you will need to download the iSMS2Droid app to be able to read this file from your Android smartphone. After installing it, the application will ask you to grant it certain rights necessary to import the SMS. Then just click on "Import Messages". The application will then automatically find the file on your phone and import it. Your text messages from your old iPhone should then be on your new Android smartphone.
