All parents know how difficult it is to keep an eye on their baby all the time. Fortunately, the major childcare brands are constantly innovating to help you ensure the safety of your little one even in your absence. Today we are going to see how to transform your smartphone into a baby monitor..

Baby monitor

Nursery shelves are full of camera systems to monitor your baby from a distance. These high-tech devices called baby monitors are very popular with parents. Barely larger than a smartphone, they allow you to listen and watch what is happening in the little one's room while vacating their occupations in the next room.

The most sophisticated models have an infrared night vision, a rotary camera and a motion detector system to be alerted as soon as the child wakes up. To this is added the walkie-talkie function which will allow you to talk to your baby and reassure him from a distance..

These high-tech devices have many advantages. Unfortunately these cameras remain relatively expensive. It takes several hundred euros for high-end models. We can then wonder if this investment is really essential, especially since the baby monitor will only be used for a few months.

Transform an old smartphone into a baby surveillance camera

The first few months after the birth of a baby are often a source of stress and worry. Many parents fear doing wrong or making a mistake. Video surveillance systems for babies are a good way to relieve anxiety and make sure your child sleeps well..

But rather than spending hundreds of dollars to acquire a connected camera, why not install a baby monitor application on an old Android smartphone. They offer, more or less, the same functionality as a classic baby monitor for a much lower price.

If you have an old, dusty smartphone at home, this solution is a great way to monitor your child even when you are away from them. However, don't forget to buy a fixing system to put it on a piece of furniture or hang it at the foot of the bed.

To start you will have to install the application on your two smartphones. The first will serve as a microphone that you will place in the room of your little one. The second smartphone will allow you to follow your child directly.

  • Launch the Play Store on your smartphone
  • Download and install the Dormi Baby Monitor app on both phones
  • Then make sure your two devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network
  • Open the application on your two smartphones
  • During the first launch, a configuration wizard will offer to pair your two devices.
  • Select the name of your old phone from the list
  • You can also connect your camera from the internet image
  • Click on the association by internet section to generate a random password
  • Then take your old smartphone in hand
  • Click the Enter password button
  • Enter the 5-digit code displayed on your new phone image
  • Then go to the home page of the application
  • Then press the Home button and select the child device option
  • Do the same on your new phone but select the parent device option

Once all this is done, you just need to move the round icon on the play button to launch the listening system on your baby monitor. When the application detects a suspicious noise, you will automatically receive a text notification.

You just have to open the application on your smartphone and then press the listen button. Note that the application offers the possibility of reassuring your child remotely via the walkie-talkie function. The latter is activated directly from the Talk button.
