Welcome to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , an online first-person shooter that is still popular 20 years after the license was launched..

CS: GO is a team game published by Valve and released in August 2012.

Valve licensed Counter-Strike in November 2000, but the game didn't become popular until three years later with Counter-Strike 1.6. Since then, Counter-Strike has grown into one of the largest competitive games in the world with a large Western esports audience..

To play CS: GO , simply create a  Steam account  and download the game . It has become free.

The basics of gameplay

CS: GO is a game that opposes two camps: terrorists (Ts) and anti-terrorists (CTs)..

The default game mode used in competition is Bomb Defusal, but there are many alternatives such as Wingman, Hostage Situation, Arms Race, Deathmatch, Demolition or Weapons Expert. Bomb Defusal is similar to Search and Destroy mode in Call of Duty , but in comparison, the CS: GO games are much longer.

Players have one life per round on Bomb Defusal (without respawn). The main objective of this game mode is to eliminate the 5 opponents within the time limit, which is 1mn05. But that's not all.

The objective of the Terrorists is to plant a bomb on Site A or B, then successfully defend it until it goes off. The anti-terrorists, for their part, must defend these sites until the end of the allotted time. If the bomb is planted, TCs have 40 seconds to either eliminate all attackers or defuse it. If they fail to do so within this time, the TCs lose the round.

The competitive mode of CS: GO has 30 rounds and pits two teams of five players against each other. A casual game, on the other hand, can end after 15 rounds. The main difference between the two is the saving system, which is simpler in casual.

This economy system is also what separates CS: GO from other FPS (apart from the recent VALORANT which was inspired by it). Players start a round with a pistol in their hand and $ 800 to spend on buying and upgrading better weapons like snipers, assault rifles, SMGs and shotguns.

Before each round, players have a 15-second period called “freeze time” to purchase weapons and other items. Weapons cannot be refunded, so care must be taken with every purchase.

Esports

CS: GO has one of the biggest esports stages in the western world. Professional teams travel the world all year round to compete and win cash prizes, trophies and glory.

Just like traditional sports, mastering CS: GO requires countless hours of hard work and motivation. The efforts are not essentially physical, but mainly on the mind. Developing individual mechanics and teamwork can take years of work. Just as important a role as mental toughness is physical endurance.

The editor CS: GO , Valve, holds a tournament in $ 1 million of cashprize twice a year: Majors. In a Major, players come from many parts of the world to participate in what is the most prestigious tournament on the scene.

Typically there are 24 participating teams in all, but this varies by year. The next Major was originally scheduled for November 9, 2020 in Rio de Janeiro, but it has been postponed due to containment measures linked to the coronavirus pandemic. Its cash prize amounts to $ 2 million.

Majors include teams from Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia and Australia in general, but that can also change over the years.

In competition, each round is divided into three phases: pre-execution, execution and retake. The pre-execution consists, for terrorists, in preparing a strategy for the capture of a site and then goes into the execution phase to try to take the site. If the operation is successful, the anti-terrorists enter the retake phase where they will have 40 seconds to take control of the situation and avoid defeat.

In most cases, teams compete against each other in a best-of-five format to determine the winner of the match. Captains and coaches can also coordinate to decide which cards to ban and to choose for points, as well as in the event of a tie.

The maps the matches are played on are chosen from the pool called “Active Duty” that Valve changes about twice a year. At the moment the maps are Inferno, Train, Mirage, Nuke, Overpass, Dust II and Vertigo.

Skins

The players of CS: GO know all these famous weapon skins. They are part of the cosmetic items of the game with the sprays, profile badges and stickers which are purely aesthetic and do not change the gameplay. Weapon skins are particularly popular and some have particularly high value.

Community

The CS: GO community isn't really known for its caring and polite players. When the tension rises, the rage is never far away. Toxic and incorrect behavior is common.

Do not take to heart what the players say, or the gaming experience will not be pleasant; ambient toxicity should not lead to the level of others either. Positivity, especially in a competitive match, can change the outcome of a game by encouraging players to do their best.
