Sometimes Windows Update Windows 10 is blocked by a corrupted download or a failed installation, and the updates are no longer installed. In this tutorial we show you how to fix Windows Update.

Problems with Windows Update

Now that  Windows 10  has become a service, the updates take place almost every day.

The Windows updater, called Windows Update , works quite well. Download the updates in the background and you can install them at certain times, or when you turn off the computer.

The problem arises when Windows Update clogs . That is, it stops updating Windows 10. It may be due to a corrupted download, which has been cut off abruptly and now it can not continue. Or to a failed installation of a patch, or a cache error.

Windows 10 sometimes announces the failure with one of these error codes: 0x80073712, 0x800705B4, 0x80004005, 0x8024402F, 0x80070002, 0x80070643, 0x80070003, 0x8024200B, 0x80070422, 0x80070020.

But at other times, Windows Update crashes : it starts to download or install a file, and it stops:

Luckily, there are several solutions to fix Windows Update bugs .

First of all, you have to make sure that it is not malware. There are viruses that the first thing they do is block Windows Update or the Internet connection , to prevent the protections from being updated. Make a complete check of your computer with any of the free antivirus.

The problem solver

When a failure occurs with Windows Update , the simplest way is to use the Troubleshooter integrated in Windows 10.

Click on the Windows Start button and access the Settings . Enter the Update and Security section and locate theProblem Solver . Then highlight Windows Update and click the Run the Troubleshooter button :

If for some reason the Solver does not boot or is out of date (which is likely if Windows Update does not work), you can also download the latest version from this Microsoft web page .

Start it up, select Windows Update from the menu, and click Next :

The Troubleshooter will perform several checks and fix the Windows Update lock . Then it will offer you to download the missing updates:

Manual solution

It is possible that the Troubleshooter has not managed to fix Windows Update . In that case, we must resort to a manual solution. It is not complicated but it requires using the command console, and if you do something wrong you can spoil Windows Update. We recommend carrying out this step only if you understand what is being done, and the instructions are followed to the letter.

In the Windows 10 search box, enter: System Symbol . When it is shown in the results list, click on the right button and in the menu that appears select the command Run as Administrator:

The command console will open . You must type these two commands, pressing the Enter key after each of them:

net stop wuauserv

net stop bits

This will stop Windows Update . Restart the PC before continuing.

Now we are going to delete the temporary files created by Windows Update. We enter the folder C: \ WINDOWS \ SOFTWAREDISTRIBUTION and delete everything inside:

This will erase all temporary downloads and the Windows Update history. Restart the computer, re-open the System Symbol , and type, pressing the Enter key after each of them:

net start wuauserv

net start bits

We return to restart the computer. With this we will have fixed all Windows Update problems . From the Start button we enter the Configuration , Update and Security, Windows Update , and click on Search Updates . Windows Update will take a little longer to erase the history, but you should find the missing updates and install them normally. Good luck!
