You can take pictures of your screen on your iMac or MacBook - so-called screenshots. In the process, a photo is made of your current desktop, which you can save or send by email. In macOS, there are different types of screenshots that can be created using keyboard shortcuts.

The following table gives you an overview of the various keyboard shortcuts under macOS for taking screenshots:

Shortcut / key combination	function
" cmd + shift + 3 "	Take a snapshot of the entire screen on your desktop in png format.
" cmd + shift + 4 "	You have the option of manually defining the area of ​​the screen to be displayed. The screenshot is then also saved as a png file on the desktop.
" cmd + shift + 4" then "space bar "	The combination with the space bar means that you can select a window / element to be recorded. Select the appropriate window with the cursor and a screenshot will automatically be saved as a png file on the desktop.
" cmd + ctrl + shift + 4" then space bar "	Saves the photo of the selected window / element to the clipboard.
To save screenshots to the clipboard:
