If you want to pay online, you can do so on account or use the online payment service PayPal. To pay with PayPal, you have to register there and activate your account for it. But there are also many alternatives to PayPal - you will get to know some of them in this article.

Pay online directly by checking account

Many banks cooperate directly with certain payment services. If you want to pay while shopping online, you can access your online banking via one of these services and pay directly with your checking account. Such providers are for example:

  • Paydirekt - a payment service of the German banking industry. To use the service, you need a current account with one of the banks participating in Paydirekt that has been activated for online banking. Then you can register with Paydirekt. When shopping online, you only have to enter the login details for Paydirekt in order to pay.
  • Giropay - also a payment service of the German banking industry. If you select Giropay for online payment and enter your bank, you will be forwarded directly to your bank's online banking where you can log in. The transfer form is already filled out there and you can order the payment as usual. Giropay can also be used by people under the age of 18.
  • Klarna / Sofort - the Sofort payment service has been part of the Klarna financial service provider since 2014. The service works in a similar way to Giropay. However, it does not matter which bank you are a customer of, as long as you have activated your current account for online banking. In addition, you will not be redirected to your bank's website, but will connect to it directly via Sofort.

Pay online with your smartphone

You can pay by smartphone not only contactless in the store, but also on the Internet. For this you need a corresponding app, for example:

Pay via online shop

Amazon Pay is the online payment service of the online retailer Amazon. Anyone with an Amazon account can use Amazon Pay to send and receive money and pay in participating online shops without registering with another service. The payment details for this are already stored in the Amazon account, you do not need Amazon Prime for this either.

Pay without any account details

The German service Barzahlen.de works a little differently than the aforementioned PayPal alternatives. Here you will receive a so-called payment slip by email or SMS, with which you can then pay the amount on site in the shop. The dealer will then be notified and your order will be sent. Advantage: You don't have to entrust your account details to any payment service. Disadvantage: You have to go to a brick and mortar store even though you have shopped online. In the long term, Barzahlen is to be renamed viacash. Here you come to the website of Barzahlen.de ..

Pay online by credit card

Anyone who has a credit card can also use it to pay online. The disadvantage is that the card usually costs money and can only be used by adults. In addition, overdrafts on your account can result in high fees.
