Do you still have old CDs that you would like to play on your smartphone? To digitize music from your CD collection and transfer it to a mobile playback device such as your smartphone, you must first copy the CD to your computer. The steps are very simple - all you need is a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive .

Read and copy CD under Windows

As described above, you need a disc drive to read a CD. Many desktop computers have one built in, as do some laptops. If you don't have a suitable drive, you'll need to purchase one. In addition to the internal drives, there is now also a variant that is externally connected to the computer via a USB port. You can find this type of drive inexpensively at an electronics store or on the Internet. The costs for this are usually between 15 and 20 euros. You are now ready to go.

Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions ..

1st step:

As a rule, Windows will send you a message as soon as a CD has been inserted. Click Choose an Audio CD Action . Then the lower of the two pop-ups shown here will appear. From there, select " Play Audio CD " for Windows Media Player. If the pop-up did not appear, you can also select the CD yourself directly in Windows Media Player.

2nd step:

In Windows Media Player, you can open a CD by clicking the album name on the left. The drive letter can be seen in brackets after the CD title. Before starting the copying process, you should adjust the format. To do this, click on " Copy Settings " at the top and then on " Format ". As a rule, CDs are automatically copied as .wav files. However, this type of file is very large. Therefore, it is more advisable to copy the music as an .mp3 file. So you can put more music on your player.

3rd step:

Click the Copy CD button above to transfer the files to your computer in the format you want.

4th step:

The copying process will now start. As soon as all files are marked " In Media Library " instead of " Pending ", the music has been successfully transferred to your computer. You can then also take the CD out of the CD drive.

5th step:

As soon as the copying process is complete, all music files are on your computer. You can find it using Windows Explorer. There you select " Music " on the left. You will find the CD you just loaded in the [Artist Name] folder and then in the [Album Name] folder.

quick start Guide

  1. Insert the CD into the drive and close it. As soon as the CD has been read in, a message usually appears in the lower right corner stating that an audio CD has been found in your drive. Click on it. You then need to choose an action for the CD. Here click on " Play Audio CD ". Make sure that it is playing in Windows Media Player.
  2. If this option does not appear, open Windows Media Player manually. You should see the name of your CD on the left, followed by the drive letter in brackets.
  3. First you have to select " Copy Settings " at the top and then " Format ". As a rule, your music is saved in wav format. In this format, the files are relatively large. The mp3 format is more suitable for mobile playback devices.
  4. Then click on " Copy CD " above . The music transfer will then start automatically. The process is complete when " In media library " appears next to each title in the list .
  5. When the transfer of your files is finished, you can find your music in the Music folder of your Windows Explorer. A folder will be created there with the name of the artist. In this there is a folder with the title of the album and your music files are stored in it.
