Sometimes it is necessary to share certain Excel sheets to be able to work on them. However, you also need to know how to remove the permissions to access shared any file in Microsoft Excel and that is exactly what we will learn a little lower..

Remove access permissions to Excel file in Windows

The way to share the files is done through OneDrive, so when we want to remove the shared access permissions to said file we will have to do the following.

Once we have Excel open, we will have to go to the "File" tab located in the upper left corner of the screen..

Next, we are going to click on "Open" and then on "OneDrive - Personal".

Now we will have to find the Excel file and open it. The file that we open must have the word "Shared" in the title..

We are going to go to "File" again and this time we are going to click on the "Share" button in the left sidebar.

We are going to look for the user whose permissions we want to remove in order to access the file.

When we find it, we will right click it and we will choose the option that says “Delete user”.

Next, we go to the "Review" tab at the top of the screen.

Here we will click on the button "Share workbook (legacy)" which will open a new window. We will uncheck the box that says "Allow changes by more than one user at the same time" and select "Accept".

In this way, anyone who has permissions to access your Excel file will be eliminated. Another way to remove access to these types of files is by selecting the "Change permission" option in the yellow bar at the top of the file. We must bear in mind that the only way to do this is if we would have created the file.

These methods do not apply in the latest version of Excel, where the "Share workbook" function is not available in the "review" tab. Instead, Microsoft added a sharing feature called co-authorship.

The first thing we will do is go to "File" in the upper left corner of the screen and then we will have to go to "Options".

Next, we are going to have to click on "Quick Access Toolbar" in the drop-down menu.

image

We will have to select "All commands".

image

Once we do that, we are going to have to look for "Share workbook (legacy)" in the list and then we are going to click the "Add" button right in the middle.

image

We are going to have to repeat the steps to configure another option called “Track Changes (Legacy)”, “Protect Sharing (Legacy) and“ Compare and Merge Workbooks ”. When we finish, we will simply click on "Accept".

From now on, we will have the "Share workbook" feature. In this way we will be able to give you access to the books and delete them as well. In case you are using a newer version of Excel, it would be advisable to use the co-authoring function instead of sharing; because it is much simpler and faster to use.
