Dark mode is currently being integrated into many apps. The dark surface is also included in the new Facebook design, but this function does not exist in the old design or in the app. But there is the option of activating dark mode for Facebook in the Chrome browser via a workaround. Furthermore, the dark mode is already integrated into the Facebook Messenger as standard. In addition, in this article we will show you how to activate dark mode in the new Facebook design.

Log into Facebook and click the arrow in the top right corner . Select " Display Settings " in the menu .

Then go to " On " under " Night mode ". Facebook immediately switches to dark mode.

Open Facebook Messenger and tap your profile picture in the top left .

Then activate the switch next to " Night mode " so that the messenger changes to the dark design. If the switch is activated, it appears green.

Chrome: Facebook in a dark design on the PC

There is a simple workaround on how to force dark mode via the Chrome browser. Please note, however, that this will cause all websites to appear in a dark design. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

Open Chrome and enter " chrome: // flags / # enable-force-dark " in the address line above.

Now navigate to the selection menu next to " Force Dark Mode for Web Contents ", which is currently still set to " Disabled ". Change the setting to Enabled, then click Relaunch to restart Chrome.

Dark Mode is then activated by default in Chrome and also shows Facebook in a dark design.

  1. Log in to Facebook. Then click the little arrow in the top right. In the menu that opens, select " Display settings ".
  2. Under " Night mode " go to " On ", Facebook will switch directly to dark mode.

  1. Open Facebook Messenger on your smartphone.
  2. Then tap on your profile picture in the top left.
  3. Now activate the switch for " Night mode ". The messenger is then displayed directly in the dark design.
