Creating a recovery device

To recover our computer from any error or problem we can do it in the simple way and is creating a recovery device. If some problem prevents you from starting your computer we can use this device that will contain the Windows 8 recovery environment and allow us to refresh, reset our and more.
  • 1 - Insert the USB device that we want to use.
  • 2 - Press the Windows + W key . The search panel of the settings will appear.

  • 3 - Write recovery drive .
  • 4 - We click on Create a recovery drive. The User Account Control dialog will appear.
  • 5 - We click on Yes . If we are using a standard account, we enter with administrator credentials to continue. The Recovery Drive wizard will appear.

  • 6 - We click on Next . The wizard will display the option for us to select the USB device to be used.

  • 7 - We click on the device if it is not already selected.
  • 8 - And then click on Next . The assistant will warn us that all information will be removed from the device.

  • 9 - We click on Create . The assistant will format the device and copy all the recovery tools as well as all the information related to it.
  • 10 - Finally we click on Finish .

It is important to mention that you can use any USB device as long as you have available 256 MB which is the space required by Windows 8 to create the recovery tools.

Backup image of the system

To protect our computer against a hard drive failure we can create a backup image of the system. In the worst case our hard drive or system files will be unused and the only solution will be to format our hard drive.
This means that we will need to reinstall Windows 8 and then reinstall and reconfigure all of our applications. However, if we perform our backup image of the system we can restore our system quickly and easily.
  • 1 - Press the Windows + W key . The search panel of the settings will appear.

  • 2 - We write file recovery .
  • 3 - Then we click on Windows 7 File Recovery . The File Recovery window will appear.

  • 4 - We click on Create a system image . The Create a System Image wizard will appear.
  • 5 - We select the destination of the backup:
    • On a hard disk: We select this option to use a USB device connected to our computer.
    • On one or more DVDs: We select this option if we want to use DVDs to create the backup.
    • On a network location: We select this option if we want to use a shared directory in our network.
  • 6 - We click on Next . After this we will see the dialog box that devices we want to include in the backup.

  • 7 - We select the box of the devices that we want to include in the backup.
  • 8 - We click on Next . Windows 8 will ask us for confirmation about our backup settings.

  • 9 - We click on Start Backup . Windows 8 will create the image.

With these tools that Windows 8 offers us we will not have to worry about a failure in our system, because thanks to them we can solve them without any inconvenience and in the fastest and easiest way.
