The reason for analyzing the usability of the web is to obtain an overview of how the user sees the web and how intuitive and memorable it is for the user.

Usability and SEO are linked by the techniques of web optimization without usability, there is no SEO, and good SEO work will make a web page more usable, and therefore better. Here we will see techniques to understand the web from the point of view of the user and not so much of the designer.

. A first analysis of usability is to divide the screen into 4 parts and see how the content is located ..

The user usually always tends to look first at the top left of the screen, it is easier to remember, because that is how we read from left to right and from top to bottom.

As we see here the navigation menu and the main content is located in the areas that the user will remember more easily, thus increasing the usability and optimization of the web.

It is important to remember that here we think of the user and not the search engines, so filling the most visible areas of keywords will not make the web position better, the idea is that the user comes back and stays because the web is interesting and easy to use, that will help a lot in the positioning.

Another interesting and more modern analysis than the previous one to measure usability, visibility and popularity of the content is page Analytics.

This Google Analytics tool from the menu Contents> Analytics page , which allows us to see the link click the users, how many visits tube and what percentage with respect to the total click.

So we can have a blue color code few clicks and red many clicks, page analytics can serve us to:

  • Determine which are the most used menu options, remove the least interesting ones and offer a new proposal to the user.
  • Analyzing where users browse can help us better understand what they are coming to do and what content they prefer.
  • Detect possible usability problems, we can know where they do not click with the page analytic tool, we can see in the previous image that there are links that have not received any click, however the majority around them if, so I would suppose that those Links are not interesting for users.
  • Analyze clicks and conversion metrics, we can see if users click on buy x product or pay a purchase, number of downloads, you can use many metrics that we already have in Google Analytics, linking clicks with some operation on the web.
A framework for professional web designers and developers on web usability is User-Centered Web Design or User Centered Design, a methodology that serves both for web and software development, is characterized by assuming that the entire design and development process The website must be driven by the user, their needs, characteristics and objectives.
