Introduction

When they published SharePoint they announced it as the death of the Public Folders and even some daring also said that it would be the end of the file servers. We continue to use the Public Folders, although it is also true that I am not a specialist, let alone in SharePoint.

The truth is that a very simple but extremely useful functionality is to share mailboxes within a company, such as the case of info @ or mailboxes that are generic but that is usually used by more than one person. We usually find ourselves with the problem that in the dialog box (Delivery Options) of the mailbox, when we click Browse , the Public Folder does not appear to point to it as a destination.
This is because we must enable the Public Folder as "Mail Enable", even though we indicated at the time of its creation that the destination was a post support. Reedmon things.

Enabling Folder

To enable the Public Folder as "Mail Enable", just execute a PowerShell command. (As we already know and I have been explaining a lot about Power Shell, we already know how to use it and how it is executed).

  • In the first command, we enable the Public Folder "Account Info" as "Mail Enable".
  • In the second command we configure the forwarding of the "info" account to the Public Folder "Account Info" (although this second command is optional, since we can do it from GUI)
  • Once these commands are done, we can see the current configuration in the mailbox's forwarding properties.

Now comes the skill ("trick"). When we have Public Folders configured to contain mail items, we can see that when we receive a new item we do not see the typical parentheses with the number of new items in blue. If we add the Public Folder to Favorites (within Public Folders) we can see the parentheses and the number of new elements in blue.

With these steps we will have to forward mails to public folder of our Exchange Server 2010.
