Summary

Google has further optimized its mobile device interface with Android P, including improvements in Android reset options. In our guide you will learn everything you need to know.

Your Android smartphone has connectivity issues or you can not edit settings related to an app? Then you do not have to reset your phone completely and lose all data - the reset options under Android Pie offer you two more options. This will allow you to reset your network settings (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & mobile data) separately as well as your app preferences (default apps, app notifications & app permissions).

So you reset the network settings under Android Pie

For a network reset you change under Android P in the settings: Tap on "General Administration" or "System" (depending on the device type , the menu item has a different name). You can now choose the option "Reset". Then tap "Reset network settings" and reset WiFi, Bluetooth and mobile data.

Note : You should make sure in advance that you have recorded your wireless passwords separately. When resetting the network settings, the saved Wi-Fi connections and their settings are deleted from your smartphone . So you have to set it up completely. The same applies to your Bluetooth settings.

Reset the app preferences

If you install a gallery app from a third party on your device and then select a photo in the file manager, you will probably be asked which application you want to use to open the image. If you select the third-party app and tap Always, it will become the default app for opening photos.

Do you want to undo this setting, without uninstalling the previous default app, you reset the so-called App preferences. So far, this function was only found under the menu item "Apps". With Android P, Google also lists them in the reset options: If you select "Reset App Preferences", your smartphone deletes all settings regarding standard apps, app notifications and permission restrictions. In addition, applications that you have disabled manually will be reactivated.

Do not worry, your app data will not be affected by this reset. WhatsApp chats, photos & more are preserved.

Reset your Android smartphone via Factory Reset

Of course, you can continue to reset the entire device: Select the option "Reset to factory settings" under "Reset". Android will erase all device data and you will have to set it up completely.

Summary

  • For Android P, Google has redesigned the reset options.
  • You can still reset the entire device or just the network settings under "Reset".
  • There is also a new reset option: You can now also reset the app preferences.
