You can already use the WhatsApp alternative Signal for secure chats on the desktop, but previously you had to use a Chrome web application to participate in the encrypted conversations of the messenger. But now there is also an independent PC application for Windows, Mac and Linux that you can set up using the smartphone app.

How to use Signal on the desktop

Signal uses end-to-end encryption for the secure transmission of text messages, images, videos or calls. This ensures the highest level of security for your private calls - across all platforms. The desktop version can be set up quickly with the help of your smartphone. The process is no different for Android and iPhone. The procedure for using the Signal desktop app is roughly the same for all three operating systems. We'll show you an example using Windows.

Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the quick start guide . If you have already installed the normal smartphone app, start at step 4..

By the way: Android apps can also be integrated quite normally under Windows 11. So if you want to use the same layout on the PC as on the smartphone, you can simply download the Signal app under Windows 11 from the Microsoft Store.

1st step:

Install Signal on your smartphone and open the app. Enter your mobile phone number there and then tap on " Next ". You will then receive a message from Signal with a six-digit code that is automatically recognized by the app.
