If several people are working on an Excel document, it can happen that cell contents are accidentally changed or deleted. To prevent this from happening, you can lock certain cells and then protect the worksheet. We explain how exactly you do this here.

How to lock cells in Excel

Follow our step-by-step instructions , the quick start guide or the explanatory video .

1st step:

Select one or more cells that you want to lock. Then click on the small arrow under " Orientation " to open the other options for it.

2nd step:

Now switch to the " Protection " category and check the box next to " Blocked ". Confirm by clicking the " OK " button .

3rd step:

Then switch to the " Review " tab and click on " Protect Sheet " or, if you want to protect the entire folder, on " Protect Workbook ". You can then choose a password to remove the protection, but you do not have to.
