You already have an email account on your iPhone via iCloud, but sometimes you need to set up another account..

Apple's iCloud mail service is an email service like any other and is set up automatically when you create an iCloud account. If you log in to an Apple device with your Apple ID, the account is also set up directly. However, like many other users, you should have had an email address well before the iCloud account was created, which you can of course also use on the iPhone. All you have to do is set it up on the device.

You can easily set up an existing e-mail account on the iPhone. To do this, however, you must have the access data (user name and password) for the e-mail provider to hand. You can insert these from your Mac keychain, for example, ideally have them in your head or written down somewhere. Then you can start:

1st step:

Open the iPhone settings . Here you will find the menu item " Accounts & Passwords " and tap on it.

Then go to " Add Account ".

The iPhone will now show you a list of supported mail providers. For example, if you have a Googlemail account, just tap on "Google", Yahoo, AOL or Microsoft as well. Tap on your provider . If your provider does not appear in the list, you have to select " Other " and go to step 5.

With the individual pre-set providers, the setup is very easy: The iPhone loops through the online input of the user name and password for the service. Enter the data, the rest will be done automatically.

If your provider does not appear in the list (such as GMX, web.de, T-Online, or the mail service of your own website) the situation is a bit more complex: At first, the following mask appears very confusing. First tap on " Add Mail Account ".

Now enter the name, e-mail address of the account you want to set up, the associated password and a meaningful description (for example: "Website e-mail") and then tap on " Next ".

7th step:

Now there is a small hurdle: unlike Google, Microsoft and Co., you need the e-mail server of your mail account . You can usually find this on the provider's website or you can ask for it there. Important: Be sure to select " IMAP " as the mail server protocol. The advantage: Everything you do on the iPhone is synchronized with the mail server. Unfortunately, some providers still do not offer this, even if these are slowly becoming rare. When you have filled out everything, click on “ Next ”.

8th step:

The iPhone is now checking the connection to the mail servers, which can take a while. The iPhone then offers you the supported synchronization functions. " Mail " must be active in any case, you can switch on the rest, but we recommend that you only run things like "Notes" and "Calendar" via the iCloud in order not to unnecessarily distribute data. Click on " Save " to add the email account to the iPhone. You can now use it on iPhone.
