Google Maps offers a very helpful function: with just a few clicks you can display the current traffic situation in real time. So you can check in advance whether there is a traffic jam on your way and whether there are alternative routes. We explain how you can display the traffic in the browser and in the Google Maps app.

1st step:

Open Google Maps via your browser and navigate to a map section that interests you. Alternatively, you can also enter a route . In the lower left, click Layers .

2nd step:

Now select the item " Traffic situation " in the menu by clicking on it. The current traffic situation in the area is then displayed in real time. The green, orange and red lines show you how much is going on on the streets.

1st step:

Open the Google Maps app on your smartphone and navigate to a map section that interests you. Alternatively, you can also enter a route directly . Then tap on the layer icon in the upper right below the search field .

2nd step:

Here you will now see some settings for the card such as "Card type " and " Card details ". You will find an item called " Traffic situation" under "Map details ". Tap on it.

3rd step:

Red, orange and green lines now show you the current traffic situation in the area.

1. Open a map or route in Google Maps
2. You can click on " Traffic situation" via the menu (☰) at the top left . The current traffic situation is then displayed with red, orange and green lines.

1. Open a map or route in the Google Maps app.
2. At the top right below the search field, tap on the map symbol .
3. Under " Map details " you can activate " Traffic situation" and you will then be shown the current traffic situation with red, orange and green lines.
