If you have private pictures on your iPhone that not everyone should see, you can protect these photos with a password. Unfortunately, this doesn't work directly in the Photos app - you have to go a detour via the Notes app. In the following we explain how this works.

How to Backup Private Pictures on iPhone with Password

Follow our step-by-step instructions , the quick start guide or the explanatory video .

1st step:

Go to the Photos app and open the picture that you want to protect with a password. Then tap on the share symbol in the lower left corner (square with up arrow).

Now select "Add to Notes" at the bottom .

Now you can give the note with the picture a name so that you can find it more easily later. You can also add the picture to an existing note or create a new note. Then tap on " Save ".

Now switch to the Notes app and select the newly created note with the image to be protected at

Now tap again on the share symbol in the upper right corner .

If you swipe to the left in the lower options bar, the option " Lock note " will appear at some point . Tap on it to secure your photo with a password.

If you've never password-protected a note, you 'll need to enter a password now . From now on, this password applies to all locked notes. If you do not want to unlock your notes with a password, you can also activate the unlocking via Touch ID below . Then tap Done .

8th step:

The note is now locked and can be unlocked again with a tap on the lock in the top right corner and with the help of the password or Touch ID. Don't forget to delete the picture from the Photos app ! It is still displayed there without password protection.

Note: Locking video, audio, PDF and file attachments is using the notes not possible ..

  1. Open the picture in question in the Photos app and tap on the share icon (square with upward arrow).
  2. Then go to " Add to Notes" and give your note a name so that you can easily find it again. Then tap on " Save ".
  3. Now go to the Notes app and open the note you just created with your picture.
  4. Tap on the share symbol in the upper right corner and select the option " Lock note " in the window that appears .
  5. Then enter a password . You can also unlock notes via Touch ID if you activate the corresponding function below. When you 're done, tap Done .
