With the Microsoft account you can log into numerous Microsoft services such as Outlook, Skype, OneDrive and also Windows 10 - with the same login data. If you have a new e-mail address, you can save and activate it as a new alias in your Microsoft account. Read on to find out how this works.

How to change the email address for your Microsoft account

If you would like to add another email address to your Microsoft account, you must first define it as a so-called account alias and then activate it. If you already have an alias, you can skip the steps to add it. For everything else, follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Open the Microsoft login page via login.live.com . After you have logged in, the page forwards you directly to " Manage Microsoft login " and you do not have to click your way through any further steps. Enter your current Microsoft account email address and click Next .

Then enter the associated password and go to " Login ".

On the " Manage Microsoft login " page , you can either add a new alias for the account or change the login to an existing alias. If you already have an alias, you can activate it via " Set as primary ". If you would like to " add a new e-mail address ", click on the button of the same name.

You can now either create a new e-mail address via Microsoft with the domain @ outlook.de or add an existing e-mail address as a Microsoft account alias. Once you have made a selection, confirm the process with " Add Alias ".

Before you can make this alias your primary alias, you'll need to confirm that it is yours. You will receive an email at the address you just added. Follow the instructions in the mail. If you also want to use the e-mail address as the primary address for your account, click on " Set as primary ".

Confirm the change with " Yes ".

Then, on the administration page, scroll down to " Change login settings " and click on it.

Check the boxes next to the aliases you want to use to sign in. At the same time, you can also deactivate the check boxes for aliases that should no longer be used for login. In our example we activate the newly added email address in the account. Confirm with " Save ". From now on you can only log in with the new e-mail address in your Microsoft account and the associated services such as Outlook.com, Skype or Windows.

  1. Open the Microsoft login page via login.live.com .

  8. Finally click on " Change login settings " at the bottom of the administration page .
  9. Tick ​​the check box accordingly so that only the desired e-mail address is used to log into the account. The email address has now been successfully changed and you can use it to sign in to Windows 10 and other Microsoft services.
