You are on your cell phone and suddenly Android comes up with the error message "Unfortunately, the Android keyboard has ended". The solution to the problem often lies in the device's overlaid cache. How you can use the keyboard on your mobile phone again is explained in these tips + tricks.

Empty cache and clear data

Clearing an application's cache and data can remove potentially corrupt files that are causing problems. If you delete the data, you will also lose stored information such as words and frequently used sentences. You will have to make the changes again afterwards. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Open the settings on your smartphone and select the menu item " Apps ".

2nd step:

You will be shown a list of all installed apps. Here you now have to identify the correct keyboard. On our test device it is " Samsung Keyboard Neural Beta ". On other Google devices it can also be, for example, "GBoard - the Google keyboard" or another keyboard. Tap on the relevant entry.

3rd step:

In the next step select " Storage ".

4th step:

Now you have the option to clear the data and clear the cache. At first only try " clearing the cache " so that you do not lose all data. If the keyboard still does not work afterwards, repeat the process and this time tap " Clear data ".

Further solutions

If clearing the cache didn't help, you can try the following solutions:

  1. Restart the device: If the problem does not go away, there may be an error in the application. A restart can definitely help. So just restart the device and see if the keyboard works again.
  2. Update keyboard: Open the Google Play Store and check whether there is an update for your keyboard. This will correct any error messages.
  3. Install an alternative keyboard: If none of our tips help, you can also install a third-party keyboard. Here you have, for example, GBoard - the Google keyboard or AnySoftKeyboard at your disposal. Access the links on your mobile phone or tablet and install the apps. We'll explain here how you can change your Android keyboard.

Quick guide: clearing the cache and data

  1. Go to Settings and tap on " Apps ".
  2. Now look for the installed keyboard and open the corresponding menu item.
  3. Then select the entry " Storage ".
  4. First empty the cache only via " Empty cache ". Check if the error has been resolved.
  5. If Android continues to display the error message, go back to " Storage " in the same way and this time select " Erase data ".
