Recorded a fun video that you would like to convert into an animated GIF? No problem! This is very easy with an app directly on the smartphone as well as online. In this guide you will find out exactly how and which apps and websites you can use for this.

How to make a GIF with an app

There are a variety of apps that can convert videos to GIFs. We use GifMe for these instructions , which can be downloaded free of charge from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store . The app works the same on iOS and Android devices.

Follow the step-by-step instructions or take a look at the quick start guide ..

1st step:

Open GifMe and tap “ Import Video from Library ” on the home page .

Choose a video you want to convert to a GIF and tap Done .

Determine how high the frame rate and resolution should be. For the best quality, pull the slider for " Frame Rate " to the far right and for " Size " to the far left. Then click on “ Create ” in the upper right corner .

After the GIF has been created, you will be returned to the app's home page . There tap on “ Saved Animation ” and open the GIF you just created.

Tap the Share button in the lower left .

Make sure “ GIF ” is selected at the bottom and then select “ Save ”. The GIF will then be saved in your photo album .

How to make a GIF with WhatsApp

For a few years now, WhatsApp has also had a function that allows you to create GIFs quickly and easily.

  1. Open a chat in WhatsApp and tap on the " letter clip " or " + " symbol.
  2. Choose Gallery or Photo & Video Library, and then find the video that you want to convert to a GIF.
  3. In the editor you can now edit the length of the clip, among other things. The video can be a maximum of 6 seconds long so that you can create a GIF from it. The video is now being processed. Once the GIF is ready it will be downloaded automatically . If the download does not start immediately, you can click on " Download ". Alternatively, you can upload the file directly to a cloud or, if you have uploaded several GIFs at once, download them all at once as a .zip file .
