The IMEI is a number that is assigned individually to each smartphone during production and which can be used to uniquely identify your device. Therefore, when you check the IMEI number online, you can find various specific information that is useful, for example, when you buy a used smartphone. You can find out how this works and what information you can also request here.

How to check your smartphone's IMEI number

Follow the step-by-step instructions or take a look at the quick start guide ..

1st step:

For the following steps you will of course need the IMEI number of your device. If you don't have it yet, you can often find the number on cell phone bills or the packaging of cell phones. Alternatively, you can simply enter the key combination * # 06 # into the number pad in the phone app on your smartphone to display the IMEI number of your device.

2nd step:

Once you have found the IMEI number, go to an IMEI check website. In these instructions we use the largely free offer imei.info , but there are many other providers that all offer roughly the same functions. Please note, however, that your device can be identified via the IMEI. You should therefore only use websites that you trust - especially if you also provide your telephone number or other contact details.

3rd step:

Enter your 15-digit IMEI number , confirm that you are not a robot and click " Check ".

4th step:

Here you can now see various information about your smartphone. At the top left you will find the model of the device and to the right of it the model number . Under the brand you can see what the IMEI is made up of: the TAC and FAC , which specify the manufacturer, the serial number of the device and a check digit.

5th step:

On the right you can see a variety of specs about your phone. Below you will find, for example, the release year , information on the cellular network specifications , the dimensions of the device or, further down, the battery capacity .

6th step:

You can also do a number of tests on your phone's IMEI. Blacklisting it is especially helpful when purchasing a used phone . To do this, click on " Phone Blacklist Check Simple ". This checks whether the device's IMEI number is on the list of devices that have been reported as stolen. This is not always completely reliable, as not all smartphones with the IMEI are reported as stolen, but it does provide an initial clue. Depending on the manufacturer, you can also check the warranty . With iPhones it is also possible to check whether the “ Find my iPhone ” function is activated.

7th step:

The website also offers paid reviews. For example, whether there is a SIM lock on the smartphone or which cell phone provider it is registered with. With an iPhone you can also check the iCloud status of the device. The exams at imei.info cost between 2 and 3 US dollars.

8th step:

If your smartphone is lost, you can also report it as stolen or lost. To do this, click on “ Report stolen / lost phone ”, enter details about the loss and your contact details. Then your device's IMEI will be noted as missing on the website and you will be notified if it is found. Important : Even if you report your device missing online, you should definitely report the theft or loss to the police . Finders are more likely to hand in a device to the police than looking for the IMEI on a website. However, you can use this feature as a supplement to increase your chances of getting the device back.

quick start Guide
