You write on your laptop and accidentally move the mouse pointer over the touchpad with your palm or forearm. That can be a nuisance. Or you work with a mouse and no longer need the touchpad. In the following, we will show you how to deactivate the touchpad on your laptop.

Deactivate the touchpad using a key combination

You can deactivate the touchpad of your Windows laptop using a key combination. Most laptop manufacturers include an " Fn " function key on the keyboard. Press this key at the same time as the corresponding [F] key , which contains a touchpad symbol with a line through it. This symbol is often found on the [F5] or [F6] keys . Simply repeat the key combination to reactivate the touchpad.

If these keys are missing on your laptop, you can also deactivate the touchpad via the system settings:

3rd step:

A pop-up will open. Here you have to select the tab on the far right. Depending on the device, this is either called "Device Settings " or " [Touchpad Name] Settings ". In this example the name is " ClickPad Settings ". Click on " Deactivate [Touchpad Name] " below (here " Deactivate ClickPad "). Alternatively, you can also tick the point below. The touchpad is then automatically deactivated when an external pointing device (e.g. a USB mouse) is connected.

quick start Guide

  1. Open the Control Panel and select the " Mouse " item . To do this, the view must be set to " Small symbols " or " Large symbols ".
  2. In the mouse properties you have to select the right tab " Device Settings " or " [Touchpad Name] Settings ". Then select " Deactivate [touchpad name] ".
