It is often helpful to know how much working memory (RAM) is in your own PC. The more you have of it, the better - because the faster your computer is. With these instructions we will show you various ways of determining the RAM size.

Determine main memory via key combination

The simplest method of reading out the main memory is via the key combination [Windows] + [Pause] . You will then be directed to the control panel and can see directly how much RAM is installed in your PC. If your computer or laptop does not have a pause button, you can determine the RAM using one of the following methods..

Right click on the system tray. Then select the item " Task Manager ". Alternatively, you can also use the key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del] .

The task manager window opens. Click here on the " Performance " tab .

Now click on " RAM " on the left . You will now be shown the most important details . At the top right you can see the installed RAM.

A new window is opening up. Here click on " System and Security ".

In the " System " submenu, click on " Read out RAM and processor speed ".

The installed RAM is now displayed in the " System " area.

Other options

Alternatively, you can take a look at the BIOS , i.e. your operating system, to find out the size of your RAM. Unscrewing the computer and examining the RAM bar are of course an option. Both variants are rather cumbersome . It is easier with programs that read out your RAM size . These include Hwinfo or CPU-Z.

  1. Right click on the taskbar and select Task Manager . Alternatively, you can also press the key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del] . A menu opens in which you select " Task Manager ".
  2. Click on the " Performance " tab and select the " RAM " item .
  3. At the top right you can see how much RAM is built into your computer . In the lower area you can see how much RAM is currently being used.
