You have probably already noticed the "swipe-up" links in Instagram stories with which you are redirected from Instagram to an external website. In this post we will show you how to include a link in an Instagram story and for which users this function is activated.

Who can insert links in Instagram stories?

Originally, the function for including a link was only activated for verified accounts or users who can have at least 1 million followers. In the meantime, the restrictive regulations for story links have been relaxed a little. You still need 10,000 followers or still the status " verified ".

How do I add a link to a story?

If you have fulfilled one of the two requirements, you can insert a link in your story. Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions ..

1st step:

Copy the link you want to paste in your story to your clipboard. To do this, tap on the three-point symbol in your browser on Android devices and then on " Copy link ". For iPhone, just press and hold the link, then tap Copy .

2nd step:

Snap a photo or video to add to your story. Then tap the chain icon at the top .

3rd step:

Now you can choose whether you want to insert a web link or link to a contribution on IGTV. Go to " Web Link " to link to an external website.

4th step:

Now paste the link of the website you want and tap the blue tick in the top right corner to confirm .

5th step:

You will then be back in the story view and will be informed that your link has been successfully added. As usual, tap " Your Story " in the lower left corner to publish the post. " Swipe up " will now appear for viewers of your story . If the follower swipes up, he will automatically be taken to the linked website.

There is an alternative way that your followers can still get to the website that you want to link with an additional step. Actively inform your users in the story that the link in your biography will take you to the website you want . In your profile, tap on " Edit profile " and paste the link in the " Website " section .

3. Then tap on " Web Link ".
4. Paste the link , then go to the blue check mark in the top right corner .
