When you sit in front of your Mac until late at night, not only are your eyes stressed by the bright blue light, but your sleep rhythm also suffers from the screen light, according to studies. That's why Apple introduced the Night Shift feature on all newer Macs. With Night Shift, the screen color and brightness adjust to the time of day: blue light during the day, yellowish light in the evening. We will explain how to activate Night Shift on your Mac below.

Open the system settings via the apple symbol in the top left or via the gear symbol in the dock.

Then select " Monitors " in the system settings .

In the monitor settings click on the " Night Shift " tab at the top . There you can now specify under " Schedule " whether Night Shift should switch on automatically from sunset to sunrise or whether you want to define your own time span . Alternatively, you can also activate Night Shift manually . You can also use the slider below to adjust the color temperature of the screen in Night Shift mode to suit your needs.

Note: To use Night Shift, you need at least macOS Sierra 10.12.4..

  1. Open the system settings via the dock or the apple icon in the top left.
  2. Then click on " Monitors " and select " Night Shift " in the tab above .
  3. In the settings you can either define your own time span for activating the Night Shift mode or automatically activate Night Shift from sunset to sunrise . You can also start Night Shift manually and adjust the screen color to suit your personal preferences.
