Why is this happening?
Prevent Google Photos from requesting permissions to delete photos

Something that is quite annoying is having to give permissions every time we need to delete photos , luckily it is possible to prevent Google Photos from requesting these permissions all the time. Phones that are Pixel don't have to deal with this hassle. If you don't have a Pixel, don't worry because as of Android 12, it's all too easy to turn it off..

Why is this happening?

Android 11 introduced a major revamp in the way apps can access device storage. Previously, storage permission gave apps access to all our files; the new function prevents it.

This function divides the files into two sections “Media” (images, audio and video) and “Downloads” (PDF, documents, etc.) In this way we are no longer giving an application access to all our files..

However, gallery apps that are not pre-installed constantly ask for permission to modify files. That is why the problem is only present in Google Photos on non-Pixel devices.

Prevent Google Photos from requesting permissions to delete photos

On Android 11, just running a few commands in ADB could fix this issue. Luckily, it is much easier to do it on Android 12 devices. In this guide we will see how to get it on a Samsung Galaxy phone, although it works on all Android devices..

The first thing we'll do is swipe down once or twice, depending on the device, and tap on the gear icon to open Settings.

We scroll down to the "Applications" section.

Next, we are going to click on the three-dot menu icon in the upper right corner and choose “Special access”. On many devices “Special access” is available without having to open the additional menu.

Now we are going to have to click on “Manage media” or “Media management applications”.

Let's enable the “Google Photos” switch. We may need to select it in order to see the switch on some devices.

Basically that would be it. The next time we want to delete photos from Google Photos, we can do it without asking permission first. This will also apply to photo editing.
