Add Border Around Text in Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is a very popular and powerful photo and image editing program, it has a large number of options that gives us endless possibilities. This can also be a bit overwhelming for someone who is just starting out and wants to do simple edits like adding a border around text in Photoshop ..

But don't worry, doing it is something too simple that will take you very little time and in the following guide we will teach you step by step everything you need to know to achieve it.

Add Border Around Text in Photoshop

In Photoshop it is possible to add a border around text to both existing and new text. We'll start by running Photoshop and creating a new file or using an existing one..

Next, we are going to have to press the “T” key or use the list of tools found in the left sidebar and click on the “T” shaped icon.

Once we have the text tool selected, we will click on the worksheet, in the area where we want to add the text and we will write normally..

When we do this, in the "Layers" panel a new layer will be created with the text that we wrote previously.

We are going to right click on the text layer and in this new menu we are going to select “Blend Options”. Additionally, we can double click on an empty space of the text layer in question.

A new “Layer Style” window will open. Here we will go to the left sidebar and we will enable the “Stroke” option.

Right away, we'll see that the selected text will have a border or outline. However, it is very possible that we want to customize it and in the "Stroke" section we have several options available.

  • Size: we will specify the size of the outline.
  • Position: we can choose where the outline will be positioned. The ideal is to choose “Exterior”.
  • Blending mode: we select how it works with the environment.
  • Opacity: we can make the outline transparent if we want it.
  • Fill type: gives us the possibility of filling the outline.
  • Color: obviously, we can choose the color of the border.

Once we have everything configured, we can click "OK" if we like the changes, which can be seen in real time without having to click "OK".

In case we want to make more changes, we will have to reopen the "Fusion Options" pop-up window in the same way as we explained before, we can do this as many times as we consider necessary.
