CONFIGURATION

We can access this function by opening the DHCP console and navigate to the Filters node of the IPv4 tree (keep in mind that the filters are not available for IPv6 addresses). We have two options when clicking on the Allow or Deny node - New filter and Activate . In general, we must have the list of MAC addresses that you want to allow or deny, and then create the filter entries and then enable the allow or deny options. As seen in the image.

When selecting the option filter, we will see the filter of the new dialog box, where we enter a MAC address and an optional Description.

You might think that after clicking Enable it will allow MAC address filtering to allow or deny lists. However, there is one more thing that needs to be done. Click " RIGHT" on IPv4, in the left panel of the console and click on " PROPERTIES" . Then, in the IPv4 Properties dialog box, click on the Filters tab . Put marks on the Enable list Allow and / or Deny Enable List depending on what you want to do. Take into account the warning : customers who had previously received IP addresses will be denied renewal address, unless their MAC addresses / patterns are present in the list of admitted.

Generate reservations and link the address of layer filtering lists of current contracts

You could add new filtering lists by entering the MAC addresses of all the machines in the network in an Excel spreadsheet and then entering each of them, one at a time, in the DHCP console. However, that would take a while. The new DHCP console makes it easier to add MAC addresses to the filter list with your existing leases. All you need to do is select one or more of the reservations from the list, then right click and then click Add to Filter and then Allow or Deny. This is much better than trying to load the MAC addresses with an Excel and enter them one at a time.

Add to the reservation. All you need to do is select one or more entries from the reserved list and click on the selection and click on Add to the reservation. After doing so, you will see a dialog box informing you that the reservation was added correctly, as shown in the following image.

With this we would be using the new form of MAC address reservation in Windows Server 2008 R2.
