Creating an MMC
First of all we log into the server as Administrator or Administrator (depending on our case).
Start Menu -> Start search -> type:
mmc.exe
and press
"ENTER".
When you run the mmc.exe command, an empty
MMC (Microsoft Management Console
) becomes available.
Now we are going to add several components (snap-in) from the File menu.
We select the
menu File -> Add / Remove Snap-in ...
Now it will show us the dialog box
"Add or Remove Snap-ins".
As we can see, we do not have any component or
snap-in
added.
We select the
"Active Directory Users and Computers"
component on the left
.
To add it, press the
"ADD"
button
.
We click on the
"OK"
button and it shows us the component that we just added in the MMC.
We extend the tree to see better what there is.
Now we write
CMD.EXE
in
start menu -> Search box
and press
"ENTER".
On the command line we write the following:
regsrv32.exe schmmgmt.dll
This command registers the
DLL
so that we have the component (snap-in) of the Active Directory Schema available to be able to add it to our new custom MMC.
It will show us the following message once the previous command has been executed:
We go back to our MMC and go back to the process to add a component.
We select
"Active Directory Schema"
and add it as we did before.
We press
"OK"
and return to our MMC.
We return to the same process to add the component
"Computer Management".
By adding this component, we will ask if we want to manage the local computer or a remote computer and if we choose the second option, we will have to specify the name of the computer in question.
We have to be clear that if we select
Local Computer
, it does not refer only to the team where we are creating the MMC console, but it refers to the team from where we are executing it.
Now we will select
"Another Computer"
and we will indicate
"SERVERGYK01".
We click on
"FINISH".
Press the
"OK"
button to close the
"Add or Remove Snap-ins"
dialog box
.
Now that we have finished configuring our MMC, we will save it to have it available from now on.
In the File menu we choose
Save ... or Save As ...
We keep it on the desk to have it more visible and at hand.
With this we will have our personalized MMC on our desk and within our reach for future administrations of our teams.
