Many laptops end up being replaced due to the battery. Either because we have exhausted its cycles and it must be changed or because we have misused it and have reduced its operation. So that this does not happen to you, we have compiled some of the most interesting tricks to prolong your battery life ..

The battery is one of those parts of your laptop that you have to pay special attention to , so we will start with general care to extend its life and therefore the life of your laptop.

  • Don't wait for the laptop to run out of battery to plug it in : Lithium-ion batteries work best with partial charges, so you don't need to wait for it to run out completely, when you see it's running out you can plug it in.
  • Do not leave the laptop always plugged in : A laptop is not a desktop. When the battery is 100%, if the laptop is still plugged in, it will directly use the power of the current to run, but keeping it always plugged in, even when powered off, will drastically reduce battery life in the long run.
  • If you are not going to use the laptop, store it with a 40% charge : 40% charge is the most stable for lithium-ion batteries and the one recommended by manufacturers for storage.
  • Protect your laptop from high temperatures : High temperatures are what mistreat batteries the most. If you can avoid overheating the laptop and especially do not store it in too hot places. A good example is to avoid leaving the protatile in the trunk of the car parked in the sun.

In addition to the specific care for your battery, there are some tricks that you can put into practice to make a battery charge last as long as possible. Let's see what they are:

  • Deactivate WiFi and Bluetooth : All wireless communications use up a lot of energy resources, so if we are not going to use them, the best thing to do is to deactivate them, save that energy and increase the operating time of our battery. If we have Windows 8 we can simply activate Airplane Mode and we will not have to touch the settings.
  • Lower Screen Brightness : Screens are one of the most battery consuming items in laptops. To save battery in this case we can lower the brightness of the screen to the minimum level necessary to carry out our task comfortably. Thus we will enjoy the battery charge for a longer time.
  • Close the programs that you do not use : All open programs, even if we are not actively using them, consume resources and this reduces our battery. If we want it to last as long as possible, it is best to close everything that we are not using.
  • Use power saving profiles : Most operating systems have power saving panels for their laptops. These are configurations that will make the computer behave differently if it is plugged in or not, such as activating sleep mode more quickly if it is running on the battery. In Windows we will find this option in the Hardware and Sound section of the Control Panel, within the Power Options submenu.
