Step 3

The ancient Romans used a different numbering system than the Arabic used in modern times. According to EnchantedLearning.com "the Roman number system expresses numbers as addition and subtraction." The symbols for these numbers are letters of the alphabet. For example, "I" is the equivalent of the number "1", "V" is the equivalent of "5" and "X" is the equivalent of "10". To express a number, you must combine these symbols. To use the Roman number system in Microsoft Word, you simply must use the letters.

Step 1

Use the keys on the keyboard to write the Roman numerals in the body of the document. If you need help converting the Arabic number system to Roman, head over to a Roman numeral converter like OnlineConversion.com or NovaRoma (see Resources).

Step 2

Insert the Roman numerals page by accessing the "Insert" menu, select "Page number" and then "Format the page numbers". Choose one of the Roman numeral formats from the options.

Step 3

Insert the Roman numerals for a list by going to the "Start" menu and then click on the numbering drop-down menu. Select one of the Roman numeral formats from the list.
