What is Paragon Hot Processing?

For copies / backups during operation, we usually use the service "Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service" (VSS). Please see the article Solve VSS Problems .

Up to version 15 including the Paragon programs a separate driver was supplied, which basically serves the same purpose. This driver is no longer available in the newer versions as of 16, as it is considered obsolete.

Switch to Paragon Hot Processing

If you have problems using the VSS, one solution is to switch to Paragon Hot Processing. This requires a change in the program settings.

Please proceed as follows:

  • Start the main program.
  • Choose Home => Settings => Backup => Hot Processing.
  • Please change the hot processing technology from "Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service" to "Paragon Hot Processing" here.
  • Please set that hot processing will only be used if the partition is locked.

Post Paragon Hot Processing

Please note: The conversion to the Paragon Hot Processing is only possible if the "Hotcore" driver is installed. This driver can be selected as an optional component when installing the program, but it can also be installed later.

Call up "Control Panel => Programs and Functions".

Click on the entry for your Paragon program with the right mouse button and select "Change" from the context menu. Then click on "Next" and select "Change program". After clicking on "Next" you will see a window listing the HotCore driver with a red cross. Click on this cross and select "Install this component". Click on Continue". Now the installation is done. Please restart the computer afterwards.
