Many people and businesses use Microsoft Outlook as their default mail client. Outlook provides many ways to personalize your email messages, such as the addition of a wallpaper, smiley face icons and clip art. Changing the source for outgoing and responsive messages is one of the easiest ways to add a personal touch to your email messages. Follow these quick and simple steps to change the default font in Outlook.

Instructions

MS Office 2007 (Vista)

  1. Open Outlook. Go to the "Tools" menu, select "Options" and then click on the "Mail Format" tab. Click on the "Stationery and Fonts" button in the middle of the dialog box.
  2. Select the "Personal Desktop Effects" tab. Click on the "Source" button for new emails. Choose your preferred font style and color. Add more customization to your Outlook e-mail desktop effects by experimenting with font size, bold, italic and other formatting options. Click "OK" when finished.
  3. Create a signature. Select the "Signature" tab. Click on the "New" button to create a signature; Write a title for the signature and click OK. In the "Select a Signature to Edit" section, highlight the title of the new signature. In the "Modify signature" section, type the contents of your signature, such as your name, mailing address, phone number and email address.
  4. Customize your signature by changing the font style or color of Outlook and adding a format as bold or underlined. Click "OK" until all the dialog boxes.

MS Office 2003

  1. Go to Outlook. In the "Tools" menu, select "Options" and then click on the "Mail Format" tab.
  2. Change the font. Click on the "Sources" button. Click on the "Choose font" button for the "when writing a new message" option. Select the font style, color, size and other formatting preferences. Click "OK" when finished. Repeat this step for the options "when replying or forwarding" and "When writing and reading plain text."
  3. Create a signature. Select the "Signatures" button and then click on the "New" button. Enter a title for your signature or select an existing template and click "Next". Write the content of your signature, such as your name, phone number and email address.
  4. Customize the Outlook signature. Click on the "Font" button to select your preferences for font style, size, color, etc. Click on the "Finish" button to save your signature and click "OK". Click on "Apply" and then "OK" to close the dialog box.
