How to enable and configure 4K resolution on a PlayStation®5 console
What is 4K?
4K is almost four times the definition of 1080p. Although all PS5 ™ consoles are 4K and HDR compatible, the availability of this picture quality depends on your entertainment setup.
How to change the resolution of the PS5
The PS5 console automatically selects the best available resolution. You can change your resolution from the Video Out settings of the PS5.

- Follow the instructions on the screen.
Is HDMI 2.1 supported by PS5 consoles?
The PS5 console supports the HDMI 2.1 specification, but also supports 4K 120Hz video output. However, there aren't many 4K 120Hz compatible TVs on the market. Sony Interactive Entertainment is working with TV makers to try and resolve issues during this transition period, but gamers may have issues with 4K 120Hz at this time.
Troubleshooting 4K 120Hz issues on PS5
If nothing is displayed on your TV when the PS5 console should display a 4K 120Hz signal or if the signal is displayed at 1080p 120Hz, check the following:
- Is your television compatible with 4K 120 Hz?
- Does your television have the latest firmware version?
- Are you using the cable that came with the PS5 console or an Ultra High-Speed cable compatible with 4K 120Hz output?
- Is the PS5 console directly connected to the television via HDMI or to a receiver or any other intermediate equipment that could affect the signal?
- Is the PS5 console connected to the correct HDMI (2.1) port on the TV? Refer to your TV's instruction manual for more information. HDMI 2.1 support may require you to change some settings on your TV.
