YouTube has long offered more functions than just watching videos. For some years now, it has been possible to buy films and series via the platform, for example. But especially interesting for many: A large number of the titles can also be borrowed for a limited time and pay a significantly lower price for them. In our tip we explain which conditions apply to film rentals and how they work.
Note : You must be signed in to YouTube with a Google account to rent films and series . This means that the rented films are also available directly on all devices on which you are logged into your YouTube account.
These conditions apply to borrowing
Renting a film on YouTube is usually much cheaper than buying it. Similar to other lending providers in the title stands for but only a limited time available: After you pay the rental fee, you have 30 days time to start playing the movie . Once you do that, you will be able to watch the movie as many times as you want over the next 48 hours . After this time it will disappear from your media library and you may have to borrow it again to be able to view it.
Lending is therefore particularly useful for films and series that you only want to watch once anyway. So you can save some money and still don't have to go without the title.
Tip : Unfortunately, not all films and series are always available for loan - especially with very current or well-known titles, it can happen that only one purchase is offered. In these cases, however, it can be worthwhile to wait a little longer , as the loan is often still activated after a while..
Rent movies in the YouTube app
Tip : Payment for the loan is made in the app via an in-app purchase . This is billed via the payment system of the Google or Apple app stores. Apple charges a fee for using this system, which means that prices in the iOS YouTube app are higher than those on the website. We therefore recommend that you rent the film via the website - this will save you a few euros and since the film is linked to your Google account after you have rented it, you can also watch it on your iPhone.
