It can make a significant contribution to clarity in Excel if the cells are not listed randomly. A suitable sorting can be according to the alphabet, for example. In Excel this can be done with just a few clicks.

Alphabetical sorting in Excel

1st step:

Select the cells that you want to sort alphabetically. Then click on the " Data " tab at the top and then on the AZ symbol with the down arrow . This will sort the contents of your cells alphabetically. Attention: When sorting, only the leftmost column of the marked cells is sorted alphabetically.

2nd step:

Now you can see that the first column has been successfully sorted alphabetically. Because the second column was also marked, the corresponding contents were adjusted: While "f" from column A, row 4 was now moved to row 6, the associated value "4" in row 6 of column B was also moved. Note: If you really only want to sort one column without any associated additional columns, just select these. Excel then opens a message window in which you have to select " Continue with existing selection" before you click on " Sort ".
