Images sent to you via WhatsApp can quickly use up the internal memory of the smartphone. You could delete these pictures of course - or just move them to an SD card.

How to move WhatsApp pictures to SD card

Unfortunately, WhatsApp does not offer you a function to change the target folder of the media. Instead, you can move the existing files to your SD card. If you then receive pictures in WhatsApp or send them yourself, a new folder for your WhatsApp pictures will be created on the internal memory. However, you can at least move the images that are already on your internal memory and thus free up space on your smartphone memory. To do this, follow our step-by-step instructions or read the brief instructions .

1st step:

Open the file manager "My Documents" on your smartphone and select the internal memory there.

2nd step:

Now navigate to the folder with the path Android \ media \ com.whatsapp \ WhatsApp \ Media .

3rd step:

In this folder you will now see various sub-folders that contain all WhatsApp media. Now mark the folder with the name " WhatsApp Images " by holding it down until the selection appears. Then select the " Move " option at the bottom .

4th step:

Now navigate back to the beginning and then select your " SD card ".

5th step:

Then tap on " Move here " at the bottom to move the folder with the WhatsApp pictures to your SD card. Depending on the size of the folder, this may take a few minutes.

Note: You should repeat this process regularly when the images take up a large part of your storage space again. Please also note that once the images have been moved, they can no longer be displayed in WhatsApp because the app is on a different storage medium..

quick start Guide

  1. Open the file manager of your smartphone and navigate to the path " Internal storage \ Android \ media \ com.whatsapp \ WhatsApp \ Media ".
  2. Now mark the folder " WhatsApp Images " by holding it down until the selection appears.
  3. Now select " Move " at the bottom of the screen .
  4. Then navigate to your SD card .
  5. Here you can then tap on " Move here " at the bottom to move your WhatsApp pictures to the SD card.
