Download content in the ARD app

You can easily download the latest series and films with the ARD media library app. To do this, you should first download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store. For everything else about downloading content on iOS and Android, read the following:

1st step:

Find some content that you want to download. On the iPhone, tap the three-dot menu and select " Make Available Offline ". On Android, tap the download icon in the top right corner .

2nd step:

You will then see the progress of the download in the overview. If this is 100%, you can now watch your favorite series offline.

Load programs and films onto the PC with MediathekView

There are a few programs that search online media libraries from various public television channels and list the programs that are available. The well-known and probably best tool for the ARD media library is MediathekView. Download the program via heise Download: https://www.heise.de/download/product/mediathekview-60659. Then unzip the zip file and start the exe. Then follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Run LibraryView and continue with the default settings.

2nd step:

As soon as MediathekView is set up and started, the current film list is loaded automatically. Search for the title you want in the search box. We are looking for "crime scene" as an example. Of course, you can also just search for "ARD" to display the corresponding content in the media library.

3rd step:

Click the download icon next to the title you want.

4th step:

Now you can change the target path of the storage location and, if necessary, also the file name. Activate " Start download immediately " and click on " Ok ". The download will now start automatically in the background.

5th step:

So that downloaded content can be opened directly with the media player of your choice, you still need to make a setting: Open the settings via [ F4 ], go to " Advanced " in the selection menu on the left and use the open symbol next to " Video player for." Playing Saved Movies "select the path of the preferred video player. We recommend the VLC player.

6th step:

In the overview, switch to the " Downloads " tab and right-click on the content you just downloaded. Here you select " Play saved film (file) ". The film opens automatically in the VLC player due to our preset settings. You can of course also start the film directly from the target directory or transfer it to other data storage media.

In contrast to MediathekView, the web version does not require Java and can also be used on smartphones and tablets. All that is needed is a working browser..

1st step:

Open mediathekwebview.de. We have already entered the filter "! Ard" so that only ARD content is displayed.

2nd step:

Right click the download icon and choose " Save Link As " in Google Chrome. In Firefox select " Save target as ". Then confirm the download path and the film will be downloaded.

Quick guide: Download programs and films with MediathekView

1. Download MediathekView, unzip the ZIP and run the exe.
2. Search for the desired ARD title using the search field at the top right. Alternatively, the search for "ARD" works.
3. Click on the download symbol next to the listed content, define the target path and file name and confirm the download with " Ok ".
4. You can also use [F4] > " Advanced " under " Video player for playing saved films " to specify a standard player for playing the videos. We recommend VLC.
5. You will now find the downloaded title in the software's download tab. Open it with a right click and "play saved film ".
