The activation of an automatic reaction from smartphones or tablets to "OK Google" or "Hey Google" is very easy to set up. All you have to do is edit a setting in the Google app and train the Google Assistant on your voice. Our instructions explain how this works on Android devices and in the Chrome browser, and what you need to know about using OK Google on the iPhone.

Activate "OK Google" on Android

Follow our step-by-step instructions , the quick start guide or the explanatory video .

Open Google wizard on your phone and tap Get the top right of your profile picture to the settings to open the wizard.

Activate "OK Google" in Chrome

Unfortunately, you cannot activate the Google Assistant in Chrome with your language alone. However, you can already use the voice assistant with the browser - on Windows devices and on the Mac.
By the way : Unfortunately, you cannot use other web browsers with the Google Assistant at the moment. The corresponding field for starting the voice search is simply not available there..

Activate "OK Google" on the iPhone - is that possible?

So far, it is unfortunately not yet possible to activate the Google Assistant on the iPhone with a call word - this is currently only possible with Siri. However, you can still use Google's voice search. For example, download the Google app from the App Store and open it. You can then tap the microphone symbol directly on the start page to start the wizard.

  1. Open the Google Assistant and tap your profile picture in the top right corner .
  2. Scroll down the Assistant tab and tap Smartphone .
  3. Then go to " Hey Google " under " Voice Match ".
  4. Now tap on " Next " and then on " I agree ".
  5. Now you have to follow the introduction and say " OK Google " or " Hey Google " several times during the process . This is how your voice will be recognized. The recording is then complete, so you can always use the voice command " OK Google " to activate the Google Assistant.
