As long as you have a smartphone with a sufficient camera, you can take 360-degree pictures yourself. The quality of the images will not be as good as that of real 360-degree cameras like the Ricoh Theta SC or the Insta360 One X. Nevertheless, the smartphone is a flawless and, above all, free alternative.

How to take 360-degree pictures with your smartphone

If you want to create 360 ​​° images with your smartphone, the first thing you need to do is find a panorama app that will help you. Such apps are available in both the App Store and the Google Play Store. In the following, we will show you how to take all-round panoramic photos with Google Street View. The app is available for both iOS and Android users . Follow our step-by-step instructions or take a look at the brief instructions .

1st step:

Install and open the Google Street View app, tap at the bottom on the entry " Create " and then select the first option " 360˚ " to take a panorama with your smartphone camera.

2nd step:

Then select " Open camera ".

3rd step:

Now you need to turn around yourself in a circular motion to create a 360-degree image. In between, you always have to take a snapshot when the app prompts you to do so.

4th step:

The app gives you the perfect position to aim for for each snapshot. You can see this position in the Google Street View app through the orange circles that you have to hold in the middle of the screen.

5th step:

Once you have turned a full circle and made all the necessary shots, tap down on the hook to finish the recording.

6th step:

The app then goes to work to merge the individual recordings. You can see this when you tap on " Profile " below . All panoramas you have taken are displayed here.

Once the app has stitched the series of photos together, you can tap the picture to view the picture on your mobile device. In the Google Street View app, you can use your phone's gyroscope functions to move and navigate the image .

You can then " publish " your image and share it as a virtual tour for all Google Street View users or simply save the image on your own smartphone . The app also gives you the option to share the 360-degree picture on other social platforms such as Instagram or Snapchat .

1. Install the Google Street View app either from the Play Store or from the App Store and open it after installation.
2. Now just tap on the " Create " entry below and select the first option " 360 ˚" to take a panorama with your smartphone camera.
3. Then select " Open camera ".
4. Now start recording. To do this, hold the camera in the correct position and wait for the app to take a snapshot .
