If you cannot be reached for a few days because you are going on vacation or on sick leave, it makes sense to have an out of office message in your e-mail account. This means that all incoming e-mails will be answered with a predefined message. Tip: If you use the Apple Mail program for an out of office reply, your Mac must be connected to the Internet in order to be able to send the automatic replies. But if you have an iCloud email address, you can have the note sent without your computer being connected to the Internet. To do this, just follow the second guide.

How to set up a vacation reply in Apple Mail

For the vacation reply to work properly in Apple's mail program, the program must be open permanently and your Mac must be connected to the Internet. You can enable the "Power Nap" option so that your Mac does not have to be switched on all the time. This means that your computer will regularly check for new e-mails and send replies even when the screen is not switched on.
