Steps to remove USB shortcut virus
Format the USB drive

USB Shortcut Virus is a virus that attaches itself to a file on USB devices such as memory cards and pen drives. It uses Windows VBScript. These are scripts that can be run on any Windows platform to automate certain tasks.

It works by linking files in your (removable media) and hiding the original files so that only the link is visible to the user. As soon as the user starts the files with these key combinations, the virus starts itself by making a copy of itself on the computer's internal hard drive. The user has the illusion that the file opens correctly and therefore does not notice the background activity of the virus. The files on your disc are displayed as follows

Once the virus spreads on the computer, it automatically infects all other hard drives and folders in the computer by turning them into shortcuts to a new USB device.
The virus can also be used to access the infected computer and steal information.

PRO TIP: If the problem occurs with your computer or laptop / notebook, you should try to use the Reimage Plus software, which can search the repositories and replace damaged and missing files. This works in most cases where the problem occurs due to system corruption. You can download Reimage Plus by clicking here

  1. Download the USB Fix software
  2. Deactivate your existing antivirus software to avoid conflicts.
  3. Connect your infected USB device to the computer.
  4. Run the USBFix tool that you downloaded in step 1.
  5. Click Clean. Your computer can be restarted during the cleanup. After the restart, a text format report is populated to show the results of the cleanup.

  2. Find your USB drive and right click on it.
  3. Right-click the drive and select Format.
  4. Click the Start button at the bottom of the pop-up window and confirm your selection.
